The American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI) was incorporated in 1989 as a nonprofit organization to provide a forum where owners, designers, constructors and suppliers can meet to further refine procedures and evolve new techniques that will advance the quality and use of concrete segmental bridges.
Today, ASBI boasts a 70+ member Board of Directors with 3 committees and 8 subcommittees that specialize in different aspects of communication, education, technology and innovation in the concrete segmental bridge industry.
ASBI is a leader in education and collaboration. From training, certifications and publications, we equip segmental bridge experts with the knowledge they need to advance the industry.
Our certification program for supervisors and inspectors of grouting operations provides the training necessary to understand and successfully implement grouting specifications for post-tensioned structures. We also host a two-day seminar to complement the “Construction Practices Handbook for Concrete Segmental and Cable-Supported Bridges” manual, which allows participants to learn from industry experts about best practices in segmental concrete bridge design, construction and inspection.
ASBI’s Annual Convention provides an educational forum to learn new techniques from successful projects and lessons learned, showcasing industry notables and discussing case study projects. The convention also allows attendees to see the latest products and services in the industry.
We also conduct an annual survey of States and Transportation agencies in reference to planned segmental projects, which is later distributed to members.
ASBI has developed a Strategic Plan in order to guide its growth and development over the next 25 years. This document is intended to help align the organization’s resources and activities with the various goals and objectives. This Strategic Plan includes five goals supported by 10 objectives that are in turn supported by 31 strategies.
ASBI’s mission is to advance, promote, and innovate segmental bridging technology; share the knowledge; educate stakeholders; build professional relationships; and increase the value of our infrastructure by providing sustainable solutions.
